Whats that about 6 inches of lift with lift and tires? It looks really great, makes me Jeep green with envy! I wish I could use my tax return to do alot of the things I would like to do.
How do they run with your 3.73's? Especially in the mountains!?
I have 3.21's, with 255/70's, but I'm dying to get 33's! Prolly need to bump up to 4.10's, so it's way out of my budget right now
That's a great looking setup. I just bought a 2007 Unlimited X last night. Soon as I sell my XJ I'm planning to go for a setup a lot like what you have. Aside from the parts that came with the RC lift, did you add trackbars or anything else?
I didn't install anything other than the lift and tires. I did get the quick discos from RC though.
I think the lack of trac bars is why the rear right sticks out that far. The left is in about an inch by comparison. And I'm not sure if the whole set up is settled yet....I had just lowered it off the jack stands when I took that pic.
I was really worried about it after hearing all the horor stories about the automatic, but I had also heard that it was BEARABLE for the 6spd. To be completely honest, I don't notice a HUGE change in power. It's there in the acceleration and there's a difference in the steering, but I shift just like I always did (btwn 2500 and 3000 rpm). There's a bit more downshifting on hills, but I'm in the "flat" part of Wyoming. Casper is just NE of the range so we've got a few hills, but very few mountains. They've done pretty good about putting roads between and around mountains out here.
I'm gonna go with 5.33's and 37's sometime later when I can afford it, but that's pretty far out, like years. Gotta start saving.
Most of my upcoming mods will be custom home made stuff like fender and bumper chops and maybe some electronics.
PS wilywillie, I was born in VA, moved to WV soon after and lived there for 18 years before coming out here. The hills out here aren't anything compared to WV unless you're trying to get to the top of a mountain. Even then there's not a much larger differential between base elevation and mountain top unless you're in the big mountains like in CO. Casper Mountains peek is about 9000 ft while Casper (town) is at 5000 ft.
I dont' have a picture looking towards the mountain, but I have one looking down from the mountain. I don't think it's any different than looking down from the Shenandoa ridge into the valley.
matt.. i run 37's with a 6" LA.. with 5.13 gears.. i get 15mpg city... its not bad.. and its not good.. but it will do... u will just have to put gas in ur jeep everyday... lol
Did some testing today up over the mountain. There's some rubbing at full stuff, but I'll be chopping the fenders eventually, so I'm not too concerned.

Yeah, I was. I meant to get a pic in the same place connected the way out, but it's supposed to start snowing, so I wanted to get out of there before it got bad.
So today I was washing the Jeep...taking my time enjoying the superb sunshine and warm weather. Wash, wax, the works (still need to hit the inside, the girlfriend keeps complaining about getting mud on her clothes). No matter what I did every time I would walk around the front end, there would be mud on the bumper from dripping out of the fender. So I sprayed and sprayed and sprayed. There's just too much junk going on up there to get all the dirt and mud out. So I thought, "Hey, I'll take the liners out and there won't be as many crevasses." So I got to it. The liner came out just find, but then I thought, there's still too much under there. So I decided that I didn't need that frame thing under the actual fender. I started unbolting and pulling and all the sudden, the fender just starts coming off. I figure, "What the hell. Premo's looks BA, I'll try it."
So I am now running fenderless on the front end. The rears may come off later.
I think it looks good. I think it'll be easier to clean in the wheel wells at least. And I'm okay with the throwing of more water/mud on the side. I usually hit it with the pressure washer after every outing anyways.
I'm debating with the bumper chop. I might just take the plastic off and see how I like it with just the metal underneath.
No, not any rubbing while turning. I had some rubbing at full articulation.
Try 4wheelparts.com for the tires. I don't know if they'll have the Procomps in stock. They were sold out of the 16x8's when I ordered (and weren't supposed to get any till June), so they gave me the 16x10's.
Don't want to hijack WVU's thread, but I ordered the exact same wheels and tires today except mine are the 16x8's. I had to get them from 2 different sources so they won't come mounted and balanced, but oh well.
Also going to go with the 2.5" RC lift and a 1.25" body lift.
First trip out with the new setup will be June 19th at the Badlands in Indiana. Can't wait.
The smittybilt XRC Fenders offer alot more protection and still give the slim look of running no flares at all. Kind of a pain in the a$$ to install but well worth it IMHO. Just put these on a buddies JK this weekend.
WVU, Edwards has got the right idea up there...I love those fenders, and we know you're not as daft his buddy to add those god awful wheels and chrome grille - they would look killer on your rig (the fenders, not the bling bling :laugh.
I haven't been able to determine whether they're $500/fender, or per pair (front/rear), but I think it's per fender
Actually the grill is copper clad... The owner hapens to be a big wig at a big copper company. as for the wheels.... :cheers: lol he drives it offroad like he stole it though, so i give him a pass on the wheels. All prices are for the pair. just be ready to drill alot of holes in the body. I think it was 7 holes per side on the rears and maybe just 2 per side on the fronts..
It's been a while since I've really had a chance to get into anything for the jeep....so here's what I got done this weekend.
Recently I made the decision to completely re-wire my auxiliary system. I was going to wire up some rock lights, but the existing wiring for my CB and windshield lights was cluttered or so I felt.
I picked up 12 LED light pods from XKGLOW.com to be used as Rock Lights, Under-hood lights, and interior lights.
I picked up a spool of scrap 12 conductor 16 AWG cable, a fuse box and a relay box from a buddy's Nissan Sylvia project, and some soldering equipment. Then went to town on it...
I started by stripping down the fuse box and relay box of all the excess wire.
I powered the centerline of the fuse box with 12 wires from the cable. Nine of the side with the relays are powered individually as they will go out to relays and then to equipment. Right now I am only going to use the 4 attached relays. The bottom side in the picture is powered with three wires from the cable. I figured this would be adequate since that side of the fuse box is going to power switches (very low current draw).
I also ran a section of the 12-wire cable to switches that are going into the cab. I had to go in and grind out a section of pinch seam on the front side of that hole so that the cable could fit through.
I know that the hole on the far left is out of line with the rest…I'm mad about that myself. I hope that it won't be obvious when I get the switches in…I didn't have a 7/16 bit and had hoped that my 3/8 bit would be large enough, but tight. It wasn't large enough.
I wired the switches in to the fuse box and to the relay mounts. I have yet to wire it into the batter, so it will ride like this for the week and hopefully I'll have time next weekend to finish it.
I plan to mount the aux fuse box on a homemade bracket right next to the jeep fuse box.
Right now I am at a stopping point for the weekend.
