AMC 360 exhaust set up

Ok I have a CJ-5 now with an AMC 360. I swear the guy had this thing tuned like he was gonna drag race it.
He had hooker headers to side pipes…way too loud.
So, I’d like to run two pipes out the back like “normal”, but not have much luck on which shorties to get or if I should just put a normal manifold on it.
Thoughts? I got a quote for $1500 if I find the headers to use. So, this is looking like a $2,000 deal, which seems excessive and I was hoping to get some sliders with steps, which is also proving to be a little more difficult than I expected, and I prefer the Rough Country look (squared) over the tube nerf bars.
Any help, thoughts, suggestions?
Thanks

Conventional or turbo mufflers on the existing headers should seriously tone down the noise.

After that, you have options.
Various in frame headers plus exhaust,
or
Manifolds with exhaust.

There are a couple of outlets like summit, that offer complete exhaust systems (minus manifolds).

I have a set of the Patriot Clippsters on mine, which directly replaced the factory manifolds.

I pulled my 304 from an '80 CJ-7 donor vehicle I'd bought [for the engine & transmission], along with a true dual exhaust system the previous owner had 'Redneck Engineered,' but had factory exhaust manifolds Swapped it over to my Jeep, it all fits and even with switching to headers, it sounds pretty tame compared to what I thought it was going to be (especially because of the old, blown-out Cherry Bomb 'glass pack mufflers).

If you can get a factory-style replacement exhaust system (2-into-1), and choose a good muffler, you'll definitely get the race car sound under control.

Hope this helps!

The 304, 360, and 401 are all the same block, so the Clippsters will fit all three engines. They only say that 360s won't fit because the CJ-s never came with anything bigger than the 304 from the factory (it's a liability thing, I'm sure).

My pal Dave went with a set of Clippsters on his CJ-7 after he swapped-in an AMC 360. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money to get the ceramic-coated headers - it'll save a LOT of hassle down the road because of excessive heat issues. The ceramic coating really does make a huge difference.

I don't unfortunately. The two pics I have are of where the PO's cut and smushed the 'Y' tube from the passenger side. These are with everything still in the donor vehicle (mine is the one with in the 2nd pic with the Super Swampers). You can see the passenger side pipe coming down and disappearing into the skid plate area to the outside of the front drive shaft.

Basically, the passenger side crosses over in front of the transmission to the driver side, which runs inside the frame with the muffler being just ahead of the rear axle. The Redneck'd passenger pipe just runs inside the frame and also has the second muffler ahead of the rear axle.

Waldron's exhaust has an aftermarket solution that should work.

I remember either reading a thread here or somewhere else that indicated the Patriot Clipster headers will bolt to the factory/OEM Y-Pipe.
