My Dana 35 carrier bearing took out my carrier which then ground down the side of a bearing cap. Since they are matched to the axle
, can I just replace the caps? If so what adjustments do I need to make . Thanks

Those only support the bearing and dont provide side to side strength so i would think you would be ok still using that one once you debur the worn side

Unless cracked I'd keep it. You're correct as to they are matched to the axle. They are line bored while torqued down so basically no two are alike which is why you need to mark left/right and top or bottom when removing them.

I'm sure there's plenty of instantances where close enough is close enough or somebody didn't know this info and installed them backwards or swapped and everything has been just fine... but your milage may vary.

What does the carrier side look like? Is it chewed up like the bearing cap? If so, you should consider replacing the carrier or complete axle housing assembly. That much damage to the cap, has severely reduced the life expectancy of the entire assembly. Did the bearing spin? I cannot tell from the pict. it does appear to have an edge roll on the inside, if so, get a new housing and build that one.

Edit: Do you have picts of the carrier housing and bearing surfaces?
