Does high idle hurt?

I'm in the process of troubleshooting a vacuum leak that is making my Sniper EFI system idle high. 1800+ idle just sitting there not moving.

Are there any long term damages if driving with a high idle? This is a weekend CJ7 so it would only be to the store and back.

Never had one of them sniper thingees

Surely, that's not curb idle

Or it must not be adjusted correctly

Or that's one heck of a vacuum leak.

How long was you planning on letting it idle that high before you fixed the issue?

I have no clue if this is what you have

There are many videos

I watched this one

I have a 4 barrel Holley 390 on my 258

As I watched the sniper video, the feller talking

Stressed checking the secondary's to make sure they were fully shut

That would sorta be considered a vacuum leak since air would be introduced in

when it shouldn't be. He also showed saving the inputs by cycling the key off and on.

I have about a 20% understanding of my Android Phone I am able to

Call/ Answer/ Take a picture/ talk text/ and attempt to read microscopic stuff

So far......Looks like I'm your feller till another shows up!

I would sure fix that issue, as a normal high idle for most folks should be no more than 1200-1500, with the lower being more normal. I would not consider that safe to drive having an idle at 1800.

What they said. It’s not that a high idle will damage anything. It can handle 1800 all day long. As long as it’s not overheating.
It’s the cause of the high idle that is the concern. If it’s the Sniper acting up, that’s one thing. But if it’s a true vacuum leak somewhere, that can actually cause damage.

Can you see real time oxygen sensor readings? More to the point though, would be what is your AFR reading at that high idle?

What sniper setup do you have. 4bbl or BBD?

Normally, it would not hurt anything as the FI is probably adjusting the mixture to compensate for the leak however you could be sucking in dirty air through the vacuum leak.
Idling at 1800 is probably not any worse then driving it at 1800 on the freeway all day.

My question is, did it ever idle properly before or just started to idle high?
IS something mechanical binding the throttle?

Yes, I located the vacuum leak using the carb cleaner method. No others leaks found.

Not sure about the secondary butterflies. I have a Sniper BBD EFI for Jeeps
No secondaries on the Sniper BBD.

Search for another leak just to be sure.

If you don't find any other leaks, try to run through the initial Sniper setup Wizard again. Your IAC might be off.

Are you sure you are not in England, and have the Elton John "Rocket Man" version of the EFI on there? Idle should NOT continue to stay high like it is, so something is hanging up somewhere for sure.
I would be pulling off linkage, sensors, wire connectors, eventually even try a regular carb on it, to see what the heck is going on with the whole thing.
