Does This need Sealant ?

I have the gasket for assembling this section...do I need sealant too? If so what do you recommend?

It depends on what year the transmission is. The earlier (pre-'90s, non-lock-up) had Dexron II or III, but the later models had ATF+4. I think I remember something about ATF+4 being backward compatible with Dexron III, but not so much the other way around. It's all voodoo "Eff-Emm" anyway. :cool:

It would be best to check with the parts store to see what is recommended based on what year model it is.

ALL Chrysler/Torqueflite A904,999,A500/518/32,42,44,46RH,RE.... used ATF+ (MS7176) since 1973 or so.This is no longer available and was replaced by ATF4+
Earlier models of non lockup TF727 call for ATF+(7176) or Dexron II because early spec for ATF+ was backwards compatible with GM DexronIIB and D

With lockup trans it is not the case in these boxes. ATF3+ (MS7176E) was developed to prevent TCC shudder and better thermal stability
Dexron II or III is only a poor substitute for ATF3+ or 4+ and does not meet required friction and thermal standards. So it should be used only in case when ATF3 a+/4+ is not available.
This comes from the past when ATF3+ was a dealer only fluid but you could get Mercon/Dexron at almost any gas station or parts store. Because some fluid is better than no fluid. After using Dexron a trans flush s recommended This was also clearly stated in the SM back in the days.:cool:
