99 Grand Laredo with the Infinity stereo system. The other day I got an error "err" code on the display for the oem cd player. It only gave the code when trying to play the 1st song on the disc. I was able to skip to the second song and it played along with every song after but not the first song. It just happened again with a different disc. Same thing in that the first song on the disc will not play but the second and after will. Any thoughts?

Pick up one of those cleaner kits that includes a disc and some cleaning solution to clean the eye. Also try some compressed air in the cd slot. Might have some dust and grim in there not allowing the eye to travel all the way to the first track on the disc.

Or, you may just have a couple crappy discs.

The changer is crap. It's a known issue. Check my sig. If it ever plays, it nornally works fine, but when it doesn't, it won't play any kind of disc. I've had limited success with using the steering wheel controls and cycling through a few discs to finally get one to play and I've also had limited succes selecting a track deeper into the disc.

Cleaning it is normally futile but not a bad idea.

I was under the impression he was referring to the in-dash player and not the changer. :dunno:

Sometimes the grease on the guide rails becomes hardened preventing the laser from moving freely, however, since it plays any tracks, it had to move far enough to read the table of contents, (TOC). That means it has moved in far enough to read the TOC, but it can't find the start of track 1. The most common cause is a dirty spot near the center of the disc. A slightly dirty disc combined with a slightly dirty laser can cause this symptom. A cleaning disc that uses a liquid cleaner might help, but it usually requires disassembly to really clean the lens.
