I've been wanting to take mine off for the longest time. Does this thing actually have a purpose?

 

suppose to deflect air downward and create more aerodynamics for better MPG...benefits are barely noticeable.

 

Took it off anyway... no regrets.. haha the aesthetics are worth whatever mpg i lose. Has a better stance and should have a better approach angle

 

or when you back up in reverse and a tree branch catches on it and then breaks the plastic on the bumper where the air dam connects to the first time you take her out on the trail...

 

So do you just rip out the fender liner screws?

 

i wouldnt say "rip out" is the proper term ... removal is more appropriate. theres nothing to remove in the fender....its the air dam

 

Do not remove any screws or rivets. Those screws are holding the fender liner to the bumper. If you remove them it will flap around loose at the bottom. The only thing that you need to remove if you want to take off the air dam is the three plastic plugs as I have shown in the pictures.

I tried exactly what you said and it's moving with the entire front fender. Like its all one piece. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong XD

 

I had a similar experience. It might take a little force, but as long as all three plugs are out it should come off. I figured it was tougher on mine because of ice, but it could also be snug due to 3-4 years of driving and being jammed in there by air pressure and dirt stuck in the groove.

 

So I found the problem. 1st, I have 4 plugs not 3 lol. 2nd, the air dam is actually held in my plastic holds where if you push down the tab it will pop right off!

 

Strange that yours is different since it is the same model year. I wonder if they changed the design part way through the production or mine was missing a plug when I got it?

 

The fourth plug was passenger side like 4 in. from the side of the bumper.

 

I noticed on my 2010 that the bottom of my fender wells were attached to the front airdam. If I remove it are they going to be flapping in the breeze?

 

That little peice of plastic is suppose to help the aerodynamics of the Jeep - Are you kiddng me lol ? I guess I won't be able to run the Nurburgring in under 10 minutes without it lol. Cool mod sometimes less is more.

 

goodprepper, i thought the same at first when i took mine off. those screws are between the fenderwell and the bumper, not the airdam

 

haha guys, just try to remove mine and I got 5 white plastic plugs and he still dont want to move....help please......

 

I just removed mine, you will only have the few white plugs, then it will look like you need to remove a few other small rivits that attach to other parts....you dont, you only remove the white ones and then to remove it you have to pull the airdam forward not down and it will slide out.

 

That's exactly what i've done and he dont move... Maybe he is just stock in ice it's -20c in here! I will remove it in spring rime haha

 

Anybody that doesn't need their white twist in clips, I need two, and can't find any online to buy. I just replaced Radiator support, Radiator, Safety bumper, painted bumper, airdam lip clips, and rivets. This all over a giant dog running in front of me at 35mph. Just missing those two white clips to complete it all. Thanks for any help as I see you are not using yours anymore, and yes I know this thread is old. lol* Hope someone still has theirs and willing to get rid of them.
