My dash gauges and window controls will turn on and off?

Hi folks I have a 97 ZJ V8 fully loaded that I fix all my own issues with and this seems to have me stumped... I believe after it rained real good in town my jeep would start having electrical issues and what would happen is my gauges will turn on with the car and suddenly turn off for however long and then come back on however long and just keep working intermittently also my door locks would lock every time (if I was driving) and my power window controls would stop working. This has happened before but only after it rained a bunch and after a few days the problem went away and now it has rained again real good and the problem will now not go away... IM NOT POSITIVE THAT THE RAIN REALLY TRIGGERED the PROBLEM.. AnywayThe jeep runs and starts just fine... Just has gauges and windows that stop working out of no where but work sometimes too?? Now I've been researching and thought this problem was in my Body Control Module or BCM so I went to a junkyard and got another off the same kind of jeep and it did not fix the problem! But the new BCM works car works great otherwise And it did drop my odometer by 15000 miles hehe
But now I am stumped on what to check next? Help please? I've checked my fuses in my kick panel and misc connections but haven't pulled the gauges out of the dash yet and didn't really wanna open up that big mess of wires... Just don't know where to look next

Check door harnesses in the boot for window door problems, broken wires. The doors locking when driving may be just the rolling door lock enabled. Once vehicle reaches 5mph door automatically lock, not sure though.

^^this

Mine did the same thing the other day when it was 7 degrees outside. As Coralman suggested, I believe the door locks are activating because the BCM reads the speedometer. Auto lock is enabled and each time it passes through 15 MPH from zero, the doors lock because for some reason. The door lock state is being reset when the cluster goes out. Not sure why. Probably something happening on the the magic bus.

My plan of attack is cleaning the cluster connector when I install Coralman's medium rare steak.:D

my 96 did the SAME EXACT THING last wwek when it snowed and got down into the single digit temps. When the gauge cluster dies (gauge cluster backlighting still works, but all gauges go dead) the door locks/windows all die as well. As in, when the cluster dies, you cannout roll the windows up/down from ANY door.

i wouldnt take those odds.. but i've never been lucky.

i didnt try my windows when mine went out. the service manual says:

The BCM receives inputs from the ignition switch
and the door ajar switches. The programming in the
BCM allows it to process the information from these
inputs and send ignition switch and door ajar status
messages to the DDM and PDM on the CCD data
bus. The DDM and PDM use this information to control
the lighting of the power window switch lamps,
and to control the operation of the power window
after ignition off feature
.

so i gather from this, combined with the behavior of the instrument panel, that the BCM is either losing, or thinks it is losing the ignition voltage.

i believe that pulling one of the fuses in the kick panel will make it exhibit the same behavior.... 7 or 8 i think.

SOLUTION FOUND! In my case I noticed starting a few months ago, the overhead map lights and exterior temp gauge would not work and with a wiggle of the overhead unit, they would work for a while. It progressively got worse and the last few weeks they were really bad. Then a couple weeks ago the gauges started working off and on, noticing they could go out or on in a turn, on a bump or when I turned the ignition a quarter inch. When I removed the overhead console to fix the map light issue, I found a red connector barely hanging on and loose. Since I secured it tightly the map lights and dash gauges have been fine, even after a 30 minute drive over bumps. It usually starts acting up as soon as I start it! Let's hope for the best!

CCD BUS

Circuits D1 and D2 connect the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) to the CCD Bus. Circuit D1 connects
to cavity C30 of the PCM. Circuit D2 connects to cav-
ity C28 of the PCM. Circuits D1 and D2 are a
twisted pair of wires.
Several modules and controllers broadcast and
receive data on the CCD Bus. Each module or con-
troller is enabled to receive only certain messages.
The PCM broadcasts the following messages on the
CCD bus.
• Engine RPM
• Injector on-time and distance pulses
• Vehicle speed
• Engine temperature
• Battery temperature
• Oil pressure

Well that is certainly way more of an in depth response than I expected. Thank you. If im following all of this correctly, it is essentially the same concept as all of the other "fixes" others have found for this issue, the only difference among them all is WHERE on the bus each of us has had a short/disconnect/wiring issue of some sort.... thanks again, I appreciate your detailed response. Im slowly but surely chasing this down and narrowing my potential problem area on the bus.
