During my recent search of a project vehicle I've come across several with the Renegade package and I was wondering if the bumpers, flares and skirt can be removed without leaving a blue million holes in the body? Is it just me or are those the ugliest short body Jeep ever produced?? The damn things look like a hover craft, they're hideous! lol

Search the YJ pic sticky section. I think you will find that a lifted renegade is sweet looking. And no, you cannot remove the body kit without leaving about 50 holes in your rig. It does have the stock front bumper under there.

Once you get rid of the hideous bumper covers they do not look to bad.

Plus this plastic/fiberglass is great protection it bounces off of rocks very well.

What bumpers do you have on your rig? They do look a h#ll of a lot better than the "hideous bumper covers"

i always thought they were sweet little rigs. Not because they were beautiful but because they are different. I like different.

I don't mind the flares as much as I do the bumper covers and rocker sections...looks like a ground effects kit off a Mustang or something, it definately doesn't belong on a Jeep. The dark blue one Cross posted is one of the best I've seen, the color seems to help a LOT...most I've seen for sale are white and that plastic junk sticks out like a sore thumb. Everyone has their own tastes...variety is the spice of life I suppose.

Maybe its just me but i kinda like the look on the renegade. its different. isnt that what most of the appeal in owning a jeep in the first place is? that it is different than anything else on the road? just my opinion.

I too used to think the "Renegades" looked more like a beach cruiser than anything...then I bought one! To date I have only seen one other YJ Renegade here in town so yes, I like the "individuality" of mine. Here is the stock pic on the day we bought "him" R.C. 4" lift sits in the garage awaiting install (need wheels to complete). Eventually the stock bumpers will go, but fender flares will remain intact.

They are the factory bumpers, however there was foam on top of them to fill out the bumper underneath. When i took mine off thats what was under there. Actually when i bought mine it still had the diamond plate underneath the bumper so wehn i did the shackle lift to clear 33's i actually nothced the that front piece around them, looked cleaner. Funny thing I never see those pieces on the renegades anymore.

Here is mine with a little fender trimming and aftermarket bumper. I should also note that under those front fenders the factory fenders are notched for the fog lights so I would suggest going flat fender if you are gonna remove all the plastic. Your gonna have alot of holes to patch and i don't even want to think about the rust with moisture stuck between the plastic and metal. That being said many guys have removed the Rene kit and have great looking jeeps.

The bumpers underneath are just the factory front bumper and in the back is just the rear cross member.

I am now at the point of do I go tube fenders or do some serious cutting.

I also trimmed my front bumper down. The front fender with the new tires and lift will probably clear. If I leave the Renegade fenders I will have to do some trimming on the back.

Here is a pic showing what I did to the front bumper. You can also see how the fenders crack has become more serious than when I bought the Jeep.

yea i want to go to 35s and i think i want some tubes im just wondering how many holes im going to have to fill i think most of the ones on the rear will be covered but down by the slider right behind the doors and in front of the doors is what im worried about. I dont know i like it because its unique but its not functional like i have to be a lot more carefull on the trails which isnt a bad thing but certain things i just straight wont do because i dont want to break up all my fiber glass.

You would be surprised how tough the fiberglass is. I had the drivers side right behind the front tire smashed all the way in against the tub and twisted back slightly. The guy spotting me thought is was going to get torn off by the rock I was against. I backed up and it sprang back and aside from a few new scratches you could not tell anything had happened.

That is why I currently consider my renegade package as my Jeeps armour:rofl:

lol yea i have only had one close call i was driving on a road on a hill and the road was only wide enough for my jeep well part of the road gave out and my back end swung around and basicly stopped on a tree it was a pretty scary thing but fiberglass was all good but im still woried about going to the rubicon this year without tubes
