Now that its fall again in upstate NY the jeep is back in action and the geo metro is put away the XJ is prowling months of on and off use the 4.0 waiting for winter.

Possible I tightened the bolts a year ago and still had the noise

 

Sounds just like my 93. Damn thing sounds like a tractor, but i have been driving it for a while (2k miles)

 

Yea doesn't effect performance It may have a crack I didn't see, have any of you guys welded a flex plate crack with good results ?

 

No welding.

 

You should identify this. If it is a flexplate, if it lets go it won't be pretty.
Lifters are not generally load sensitive.

 

What does a flex plate cost

 

Gotta check, not too much. I work at advance auto.

 

Only bad part is the worst time of year to do a engine pull lol, gonna have to get under it and remove the inspection cover and really look at it. Hopefully it's just cracked a bit And if not getting a crate motor

 

possibly a piston skirt? I had that same noise in my tj, and that's what it was. the chunks were in the oil pan, but all of them were too large to come out the drain hole. the noise would actually go away when on throttle at a certain rpm. let off the gas and it came back.
