I think the alternator only has 2 mounting hole spots
1984 CJ7 4.2l, dealer installed "factory air" to the best of my knowledge, Vbelt non-Cali setup. Maybe this helps? Alternator mounted directly above AC compressor, one pivot bolt below on engine side, one slide bracket bolt above on fender side.

Yes that is very interesting. Right now i have the alternator on the other side of the bracket, that’s on the fender side. But my alternator itself is threaded so if i did it like your set up i would alternator threads and a nut. We have different alternators.

wait. I see they could bolt on the same way though. Let me look through some pictures of when i got the jeep to see how it was when i got it 3 or 4 years ago

update . Didnt see one.time to check google.

ok i see one set up like mine is now st the moment

I found that having 6 CJ-5s as daily drivers since 1981, any place that

a hose runs against metal, in time, usually results in disembarking one's

Jeep putting the "Johnny Go Fasters into operation"

I was hard headed ---- so ....after the second time, I started using split hose

over everywhere hose crossed metal

Same here, but I do a spiral cut down the length of it, do it does not turn and come off over time or work its way onto the straight cut area.
Heater hose on my '84 GW 401 engine, tucked between alternator & AC mounting bracket. The split hose is long enough so it will not slide down, and again, the spiral cut so it will not come off.

Got in my CJ-5 to take it for a spin just to put a few miles on it. Started right up then I saw that the oil pressure was a lot lower than the normal 50 lbs. Instead the gauge only indicated 20. Turned it off and restarted, went up to 20 and dropped to zero. Checked for leaks in the gauge pressure line. None. Two thoughts crossed my mind: 1) I hope I don't have an oil pump problem. 2) I hope it's the Auto Meter mechanical gauge although it's been very consistent over the 20 or so years I've had it. Another thought was that all the years I worked in the Navy calibration lab, I saw very few failures while calibrating bourdon tube gauges. Anyway, I pulled the gauge out of the dash and put it on my Mityvac gauge tester. Thank God, the gauge failed. You can't imagine my stress level as I was wrapping teflon tape on the gauge and fittings getting it ready for testing. It was such a relief to see that the problem was with the gauge. Got another Auto Meter gauge on order from Amazon. Time for some pizza!

Yup thank god. When i assembled a 258 with incorrect bearings in abox that was for the correct bearings my sank when i heard the knocking at first start up . . I was ready to a long walk off a short pier but i think that time i got really lucky .

Thank god. I hate waiting for the machine shop
We don’t even have one in town here anymore since the one at Napa closed its doors! Nearest to me is in Chandler about 45 miles away! Casa Grande is a farming community but lots of subdivisions popping up here over the last twenty years so the need for those kind of businesses has slowed way down. Not many people work on their own cars these days.

Novak t18 adapter bushing. Does it go in flush with the boss on the crank, or driven in till it bottoms out?
I'm installing an AX15 on a Gen III Chevy using a Novak bushing. I installed bell hsng and transmission first to see what kind of poke I had. Then installed the bushing, bell, and transmission to double check. You want enough but not too much or the input shaft splines make contact with the bushing. Mine worked out great bottomed, but different crank so you can't go by that.

Then it took 4 different throw out bearings before I got the air gap I wanted. Seems like some manufacturers specs are just 'targets' and actual length may vary. I've mounted and removed that transmission a few times, but I know it's right. Just a part of these types of modifications.

Jim,

Besides Ah/size of the battery, the eBay, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. batteries ARE NOT EQUAL to the "same" battery direct from DeWalt or from your local rental, hardware or home improvement store. Gotta make em cheap to keep contracts with the big boxes; sometimes theyll have an extra letter in the model #, etc. Same goes with faucets, lockets, etc, etc, etc.

From a guy that has "worked both sides" for what it's worth...prob not even $0.02 😆🤣😂

Hey Glenn where are you getting your Dewalt batteries? I've bought some on ebay but they're not nearly as good as the original batteries. Pan on watching the video this evening.
Thanks
Jim
I haven't bought many, they seem to last forever, but when I do I get them off ebay in seal factory packages.

I finished up my 6-day road trip in the CJ, over the Appalachians and back, total of 2155.5 miles and she performed beautifully.
Tomorow Ill check all the fluids and clean her up.
