2003 42rle. We are going to get another since we lost reverse a few years back and are tired of messing it. Who do you guys know of that offers a good replacement trans that doesnt require serious mods?

We.would do a stick but its hard to find right hand drive stuff in standard

What all did you do to try to restore Reverse? Did you verify the ATF is all the way up to the full mark on its dipstick while the warmed up engine is running? Does it work 100% ok in all forward gears? Did you replace its solenoid pack on top of the valve body?

We replaced the solenoid packs, did the valve body spring kit, replaced the other electronic deal that has to do with shifting in the valve body, fluid and filter change and have verified the fluid level multiple times.

Jarrod was in the parking lot backing up and it gave a loud pop and reverse was gone. Every other gear is fine and i, personally have driven it back from colorado, twice, since the reverse stopped working. Jarrod drove it up both times while he was in the army and i brought it back when he got a car with working reverse and then later when he got sent to korea. And he has been driving it in south texas since he got out 1.5 years ago with no issues, except lacking reverse.

We also had to replace the shift linkage cable that goes from the inside shift lever to the lever on the transmission because the end broke off one time.

This is the jeep that got rolled so i am not sure if that caused it, or its the normal 42rle issue i have read about multiple times

Having run a 42RLE for close to 20 years I haven't heard of any normal 42RLE issue. I had a bad solenoid 7 years ago and replaced it, no problems before or since that. 05-06 TJs have PCM problems with the 42RLE, which are unrelated to the 42RLE itself, but...

I have been looking at rebuilt 32RH; but I am rebuilding mine first. Buying a professional rebuilt valve body. With that said, I have done some research on rebuilt units.

“Certified Transmissions” is apparently a good one. I do not think they sell direct. Your local shop(s) probably offer them. I was told to stay away for “Jasper”.

I heard that about jasper, also.

When i googled how to try anf fix it, there are a few very long threads of people who have lost reverse and things others have done to fix it. Like 100 pages long on one or two. I was very surprised because we never had any issues with the 42rle in our jk. And i also found lots of threads on other forums from other vehicles that use the same trans that lost reverse, too.

I was very surpised to find so much on it.

Ended up finding a low mile used one up in seguin texas. Got the trans, upper door plastic frames, center console, and nice aftermakret rear bumper for 1700
