They've always had them. No oil pump drive=no oil to engine. Older models had the distributor, newer models have the cam shaft sensor but lower section that turns the oil pump is the same. If you're asking about the problem with them going bad it's the '05-'06 yr models. Several others and myself ordered one from here: http://www.mopar-wholesale.com/
Be sure to modify the new one you get with a zerk so as to be able to lubricate the upper bushing. If you don't it will fail just like the current one has.
Why don't you fix the one that's bad since you can't get a new one for a month. Like Fog said you're gonna need to modify the new one to make it last anyway. You can go ahead and modify the old one and if it's bad anyway you have nothing to lose. The thread Peterpsc pointed you to is a long read but worth your time and will show you how to fix the old one and modify the new one. Here is a good summation thread of the problem too http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/2005-06-jeep-opda_cps_distributor-failure-1144202/
I was thinking of trying it how bad is it to do i read the post about it so put it apart clean it and drill and tap for the grease fitting and put it back together
It is easy. That said plenty of things can go wrong. I've done several with no problems. There is a step-by-step in the failure thread. Follow along and you should be in good shape.
Well I took it out today and not that bad the shaft was tight but cleaned up good the gear was worn not alot but enought to repalce when the new one comes in sorry no pictures camaras broke thanks for everyones help.
My oil pump drive is going along with the torq converter. Only 55k on the jeep too. Thank god my powertrain covers all this.
